Description

Moved from my main account =Milkycat to here since this does deal with doll stuff and this is my doll account. So yeah...enjoy.

Please download for the full view so you can see better, thanks!!

My steps do not technically follow the images, the images are more or less so you can see what I was doing.

I learned this little trick from one of the gals on the Den of Angels formum board for ABJD/BJDs. (Asian Ball Jointed Dolls, or Dollfies) You can see her profile here [link]

Anyway on to the tutorial!

Make sure you have everything you need to begin. I used and old shoe box from a child's shoe size, so it's not too big. Then I used a hot glue gun, ribbon, scissors, thread and needle. Last, stuffing for the pillow. All these things are very inexpensive especially if you buy the clearance fabric. My fabric was only $1 a yard.

Step 1. Take the lid of the shoe box and break the lip, and then cut them off so you have just the hard cardboard that was the top left.

Step 2. Cut your fabric to fit. It's really easy if you think of your fabric like wrapping paper, since this is how I put the fabric around my cardboard. Hot glue it in place. And make sure it's pretty tight, and be careful! The hot glue can burn your skin. To make my wrapping a bit more clean looking, I folded the edges of my fabric under then applied the glue.

Step 3. Do the same for the actual box the shoes came in. I wrapped mine so that the open part is on the bottom.

Step 4. Now you need to glue the back to the box to make the basic chair come to life. In #10 I have placed my back a tad too high and it's a little un sturdy but make sure you adjust the height to your liking. Hot glue it in place and hold for a few mins to make sure the glue is setting. Once I was sure it wasn't going to fall off by itself, I then went around all the edges sealing them with glue. Now you have the basic chair, you just need to decorate it!

Step 5. I added lace trim to mine, again just glueing it around the edges. As you can see in the remaining images, I added green ribbon creating a nice finishing edge, and then I made the pillow for it. This is really simple, if even if you have minimal skills with a thread an needle.

Step 6. For the pillow, you start with two peices of fabric the same size. Put them so that the right side is facing in, and you are going to stitch around the edges, leaving an opening a couple inches wide. Turn it inside out and fill with stuffing. Then sew up the small hole you left so non of the stuffing comes out. I then just added the green ribbon around it, like I was wrapping a gift! It took my just under 30 mins to make. You can do it too!

If you make one, please let me know I'd love to see it! Hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and it's my first one regarding something like this, usually it's art. So I hope you can follow along Ok. Crits are most welcome!!! Comments too, this is my first chair, and I'm not sure it's even going to fit my new doll when I get him...but it's OK since I have other plans for this chair...

Thanks for looking!
